An Info Day of the CARE project “Common actions for refugees and other migrants’ health“ was organized in Croatia on the 24th February 2017, in Europe House, A. Cesarca 4-6, Zagreb.
There were around 60 participants from different sectors engaged in migrants‘ health management, such as representatives from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Interior, front-line health professionals, and representatives from IOM and different NGOs (Croatian Red Cross, Are you Syrious, Merdcines, Médecins du Monde, Rehabilitation Trauma Center, Jesuit Refugee Service etc). Our special invited guest was Ms Marika Podda Connor from the Migrant Health Liaison Office, Malta, also a CARE partner, who gave an extremely well accepted presentation on the experiences, challenges and lessons learnt by the longstanding work of her Institution with migrants in Malta.
The Info day agenda included a variety of topics, such as the legislative framework of the healthcare in migrants, the main challenges in the reception centres in healthcare provision from the perspective of migrants and healthcare professionals as well, introduction of the personal health record as a necessity to have a systematic monitoring of the health status and health needs in migrants on the individual level.
During the Info day, all the materials produced within CARE project have been presented to the participants: the leaflet and booklet for the improvement of the health literacy in migrants, printed in several languages (Arabic, Farsi, English and Croatian), as well as posters and pocket calendars aiming to awareness raising among local population and reducing misconceptions related to migrants frequently present in our society.
The whole event received substantial media coverage, including interviews on national and commercial televisions.
